It's been a really hard couple of months for me, a lot going on with my husband and my life that I don't even want to think about, so for this post I've decided to lay out the numbers so I can see clearly what my monthly expenses look like and deal with some things I can solve with math. The items listed in black are recurring bills while the grey are credit cards that I can conceivably pay off.
Wow, when I lay it all out it's a little overwhelming. I didn't count the rent because my husband pays that. Still, with gasoline and food that puts my basic expenses at over fifteen hundred dollars; that's 87% of my total income. And 13% going straight to my credit debts!
If I have $390 a week wrapped up in expenses and I want to put $60 in savings, that leaves me nothing for concerts, for movies, for anything beyond a place to live, food to eat, and gas to drive around. This leads me to my next realization: I have to change my lifestyle.
Okay, let me admit something. I LOVE thrift shopping. I love the stuff, I love the search, I love the feeling of finding a great deal. And because my job sometimes entails waiting around for orders to come in, I spend more time at the thrift store than I should. I also like to eat out and buy stuff on Amazon. But I realize I have enough. I live in a small apartment and it's already crammed full. So I'm actually looking forward to retraining myself to fill my time with doing things instead of buying things.
